Ah! I also love John McPhee. I can see several of his books on my shelf from here. And his articles in The New Yorker.

Lots of dead critters on the road this morning. Something McPhee could (if he hasn't) write about. My tour of flattened fauna included a well-fed pet cat, skunks, and, I think, baby possums near their mom, knocked off when she was hit by a car. I didn't stop to be sure, but I think that's what I passed this morning.
