Thanks all for the information. The lady must at the very least have
slept with a Scotsman to have produced such a tear-jerker of a song,
we Scots being connoisseurs of the genre. Indeed "We"d Better Bide
A-Wee" is up there with a favourite gospel song in broad Scots that
I discovered was written by an American lady in 1860, she of course
had the advantage of having being brought up by a Scots nanny from
birth & had a Scots grandfather,her song being "My Ain Countrie",not
to be confused by the song of the same name compossed by Allan
Cunningham.
