Thread Name: South East Whistle Players OR harpists
Subject: South East Whistle Players OR harpists
Hiya,

As some of you may know, I have recently started to learn the whistle and have also been lucky enough to get a harp. I have great people around me to teach me basic musical skills but no people who actually play either of these instruments. So I was wondering if there are any whistle players or harpists in the south east that attend sessions that I may be able to attend to pick up some tips and pick the brains of!

The whistle, I have been playing (as in playing it at least once a week) for about 2-3 months. I have pretty much just completed my first tune to full speed and know parts of others. I have some basic ornamentation but am struggling to "feel" where to put it. Whistle players to listen to would also be appreciated- currently very few CDs I own have notable whistle players upon them (although I own lots of tunes- bizarre really!).

The harp I have very limited experience with. in 2007 I had 3 months of lessons, enabling me to know how the instrument works, correct hand and finger positions and the process of "placing". It is only now that I have managed to save the funds for a harp and seem to be doing okay- but of course, extra help or tips are never turned away. I love learning and intent to soak up any music related knowledge I can, having come from a very non-musical background.

So yes, if anyone out there plays either and wouldn't mind having a chat with me- or if anyone can recommend artists to listen to, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!
Sinéad.
