A couple of months ago, it was reported that the powers that be had decided to ban the annual cheese rolling competition at Coppers Hill, Gloucestershire. The reason given was that after 400 years of broken bones and cracked heads, the event was no longer deemed safe.

Anyway, as this Sky News commentary shows, it takes more than a few daft regulations to keep a cheese roller down. On May 30th, a few hardy souls turned out to make sure that, health and safety or no health and safety, the ancient custom would not be allowed to lapse.
