Thread Name: Who was Claribel?
Subject: RE: Who was Claribel?
Returning to Claribel: in one of the first book of Irish Songs (with musical scores) I ever bought, as a teenager, there was "Come Back to Erin" (and forty-nine others). Only one of these, a setting of The Air From County Derry, rose above the stave, and only to a G. However, admittedly as an "opp." note, the final phrase in Claribel's song rises to a Bb. It has been said that the melody of "Come Back to Erin", like many nineteenth-century "Irish" songs, has as little relation to Ireland as to Araby.
