What about foam cored laminates. We have a wonderful case made by my wife Sandra for a travel guitar made from foam core board designed for mounting pictures and posters. Very easy to work with, cuts with a knife, bends with a little heat and retains its shape. Amazingly strong and very, very light.

It you want better puncture resistance then there must be equivalent structural sheets, used for boats.
