BTW, I tried opening a document and inserting the word "brunette" in it. All it did was correct my spelling. It sounds to me like what you brought up was not a correction, but a definition, having called on the automatic dictionary function rather than a spell-check.

ALternatively, you may have set some kind of weird politically correct standard rule in the Grammar settings.

I have never been told such a thing by Word myself, and I have used it for decades in various incarnations.
