Sonnet 02/12/00                        DII

An hour passes, and I wait for muse,
Not knowing. Can I further waiting stand
Without word or reason? Heart will refuse
The thought of leaving: I cannot demand
Reply, though it remains desire. I ask
Too much, perhaps, in seeking to know thought,
But to earn smile, not my intentions mask:
I seek to know if she is what I've sought.
Do I ask more than friendship may allow,
To know when I might see her words, or send
A message? Does she tire of me, now,
Or does she wish that I would questions end?
I do not know how to the silence read,
Whether to beg for time, or let heart bleed.
