Sonnet 07/12/00                        DVII

The voice of muse is silent, but I hear
A sound of sorrow in the wind. I weep
To think she has no time for me, but fear
She does not care. How can I my dreams keep
Without her smile? I try to understand
What I might have done, to my heart have held
Away: I cannot regret that muse fanned
My feelings into flame. Yet, heart must weld
These flaws, to seal off hope and dreams, before
They shatter all. I pay the cost of verse,
To worship muse while state of heart ignore:
I write my lines not understanding curse.
I do not know if cost of dreams are high,
Or if this muse remains, to my heart try.
