June 14 , 2010 – Today's upload consists of the songs on Bob Coltman's Before They Close The Minstrel Show . This album of Bob's was recorded for Minstrel Records in 1975. The following people can also be heard on the album - Ed Tricket, Abby Newton, Jay Ungar, Lorraine Lee, Estelle Wade, Lyndon Hardy and Jerry Epstein. Much thanks to Don Wade of Minstrel Records for permission.

The songs are available for free download.

Meet Her When The Sun Goes Down -composed by Vernon Dalhart & Carson Robison and recorded by them in December 1927. Bob learned it from the 1929 recording of Fiddlin' John Carson and his daughter, Rosa Lee Carson (Moonshine Kate)

Banjo Sam - - The Wilmer Watts and The Lonely Eagles 1929 Paramount recording is the source.

Perry Bradford (1893-1970) wrote Fattening Frogs. The earliest recording I can find of it is by Liston made on June 3, 1925 though I wouldn't be surprised to find that Bradford himself recorded it earlier.

Curley Weaver recorded Sweet Petunia for Columbia in 1928, Bob for Minstrel in 1975.

The Curtains of Night was written by William Shakespeare Hays in 1869.

Delta bluesman Tommy Johnson's Cool Drink of Water Blues has one of the most memorable lines in it. To wit, " I asked her for water, she gave me gasoline." Johnson originally recorded it for Victor on February 3, 1928

Also on this album are I'm Almost Home and the following Bob Coltman compositions: The Mile to the Mountains, Skilly Skaw, Jack's Red Cheetah, Bronco Buster, Chase 'Em Home, and Before They Close The Minstrel Show.
