Sonnet 08/12/00                        DIX

Dear muse, how can I tell you with what joy
I read your words? I would not wish to cause
You to lose smile, but silence will destroy
My hopes more certainly than death. I pause,
Upon the edge of falling: You have sent
More than I dream, but less than I desire.
But, know I care: My fears may circumvent
These walls to hope, but you still heart inspire.
Perhaps heart has flaw, to care and not know
You would not be so cruel. Yet, I have past
To form my future: How could my words show
How much I want for your sweet smile to last?
I know I cannot more of your time claim,
But I would rather Hope, than chance of fame.
