I never feel lonely when alone, because I am comfortable with my own company.

I feel loneliest in a throng, because I know I am not one who can mingle gracefully; I am terribly shy, and crowds have always intimidated the heck out of me. So when I'm lonely, what makes sense to me is to get out of wherever I am and walk, walk, walk until I have dispelled the panic the crowd brought on. If that walk can take place in the countryside and at night so much the better, but any walk will do in a pinch.
