Sonnet 12/12/00                        DXIV

I fear that I might lose the voice of muse
Now found after lost years: I cannot name
The sorrow that would bring. I dare not chose
A path away from her, to heart reclaim.
I fear that I might never see her eyes,
To look beyond her words, and seek her soul.
Yet, dare I take the chance to realize
Her power to shatter, or to make heart whole?
I fear that I might find, only to lose,
My heart's desire. How can I care so much,
Unmet? I know not fate: She may refuse
To fulfill hopes. How can I her heart touch?
I fear a loss far greater than these three:
That heart may speak, and her friendship might flee.
