It is funny what tricks memory plays. As an Elvis fan from the beginning I loved his voice and most of the songs he recorded. When he came out with Peace in the Valley that is the version we all sang.

However. I did not recall that he sang 'night is as black as the sea', which to me doesn't fit the premise of the song. 'night is as fair as the day' is the only thing that makes sense there.

So I YouTubed- and yep, Elvis sings 'night is as black as the sea'.
