California, here I come!


I'm heading across the continent, with my daughter, son in law and grandson, for a couple of weeks, flying into San Francisco for a few days and then driving down Highway 1 to Los Angeles and then over to Las Vegas.

We have hotel accommodation in SF but I am wondering if anyone can recommend reasonably priced hotels/motels in the LA region or on the journey between LA and LV.

I'd also be interested in knowing what there is to see in the cities and en route that might be of interest to my non-folkie family and, in particular, a 9 year old boy.

I would also like to try and meet up with Mudcatters in the areas we will be traveling through, if possible.
