Jacqui, if you do make it down to San Diego, I recommend Chez Amos - and Balboa Park for jamming too! Them geetar and banjo pickin' animals is sumthin' to see (& hear) too.

Heck, you might even take a side trip south of the border down Tijuana way - if you don't mind long lines at the border. There are also some nice Pacific Coast beaches, such as Torrey Pines Park, in the SD area. No cost to hang out there.
And if you go to the beach at LaJolla (very near Chez Amos) you can watch the seals and sea lions who have usurped the "children's wading pool" area on the beach there.
