For what it's worth, Arthur, my son, who's very technically adept & does work I'm not qualified to describe for a Silicon Valley firm, went with the
HTC Droid Incredible, which probably has a UK counterpart as well (the Desire, if I read the review correctly). Price was not an object for him, but phone coverage in the U.S. for the iPhone is notoriously spotty, which led him to chose the Incredible.
