Go listen to the Ledbelly version on youtube you will see that the gun is a shotgun and i don't recall the tickler in there so a later addition maybe but there are a hell of a lot of variations i think the Ladbelly version is definetly the greatest he got payed $100 to play it again in a joint before he was about to leave. there are words to the tune on you tube as well.
