Listened to the A.L. Wilson version on youtube. Quite different from the Steeleye Span version, which hitherto was the only one I'd heard. Both are great! I couldn't figure out why the comments under the Steeleye Span version were saying it was "risqué" and such -- when it's clearly not. The Wilson version (much closer to Child) is a little more racy, but hardly lewd.

I would correct Muttley's version to a canting, i.e. singing, praying, priest (from "canty" priest, which surely is a mondegreen).
