Yes Dave Mac, that's the take I came away with too. I think we saw the same programme this side of the pond (UK) from the sound of it, I saw it straight after a programme called "Kings of Country" - and Merle seemed to hold his own really well in the company of Cash, Rodgers, Jones and Reeves. His voice really is pure syrup, so beautiful. I hate some of the arrangements that turn hard songs into soft ones, but I suppose that was the style at the time. I can certainly listen to more of Merle - though possibly not "Walking on the Fightin side of me"
