That was how they restricted the ability of the mullahs to mull. They also succeeded in causing the intelligensia of the country to flee abroad which severely affected the standards of competence to govern and administer the country. Subsequent fighting then completely destroyed it, by September 2001 one-third of the population were either dead or living in refugee camps.

Can you imagine a worse mess? - Yes a return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan.
