I am on record as advocating a similar policy here. I see NO good reason for the average citizen to own handguns...even though several good friends regularly disagree with me.

Sadly, it is almost as scary as permitting free gun ownership to imagine the chaos & carnage if we tried to ban them and take them away. Too many people treat their 'right' to 'bear arms' as something approaching Holy....when even the Constitution is a bit ambiguous when read carefully.

I have no idea what to do...except to hope, and to try to stay away from places where there is danger. This is not easy, because there have been instances of gun violence less than 5 minutes from where I live, in facilities where *I* might occasionally go.

I am cursed with the training to see the flawed logic in both opposing the death penalty and allowing almost unlimited access to weapons, while at the same time decrying any unnecessary taking of life. I suppose it's a bit like living in the Middle East or Afghanistan.... forces are out of control, and what will happen will happen.
