Let me put it this way.

Yes, I have guns, swords, and knives. I also have a three-inch-thick binder labeled "Cracking". That binder contains various password-cracking programs (brute force and otherwise), network analysis programs, and some other dark-gray to black stuff I won't mention. The stuff will work on Windows, Unix, Linux, and MacOS machines. I used it when I was a system administrator (which was from 1991 up until this past March) and kept it up to date...I will continue to do so because you never can tell.

Possession of these programs is not a crime; using them, well...could be, could be. It depends.
