Sonnet 18/12/00                        DXVI

I have not heard your words the past few days
And cannot tell how much the silence pains.
How can I hope, without words to show ways
To bring your smile? Yet my desire attains
Not less, but more: I still would seek to know
When I might look into your eyes, and see
If muse be more than dream. Can my words show
How I desire, yet fear? Is my heart free
To turn away, if you seek end to verse?
I cannot know, but think not: I have found
You to inspire. I might silence rehearse,
But find I am with faint whispers still bound.
I write these lines, but whispers still in mind
Cause me to seek your light, though I am blind.
