Carmen and I attended Oktoberfest last year. Oh, the humanity! I have never before seen so many people in one place. We made the mistake of watching the pre-opening parade, which was just glorious. However, immediately afterward we were pushed through the gate by what was probably hundreds of people, but felt like thousands. We held tightly to one another for fear of either being separated or being trampled. I mean it. No joke.

When things calmed down a bit it all became much more fun. But, to be honest, having done it once, we will never do it again. It (or at least, the opening,) is not for the timid or faint of heart. I'd much rather drink my beer at a restaurant or gasthaus for much less money. But then, I've never been much for crowds anyway.
