I agree with Don. Rhymesterbation. I think a lot of those guys back then did lots of drugs and then just made stuff rhyme. For some, this led to a lot of accidental beauty and unexpected meaning, but for others, it seemed more like they did a lot of drugs and made stuff rhyme.

I think the right word might be "trite". I'll also say that it's hard to judge a song when I haven't heard it--the tune may redeem a lot of problematic writing, but the feeling that the authors were just trying too hard would be hard to shake.

If it's that great a tune, I'd just re-write the whole song. Tune © whomever, words © whomever, new words © you.

(Sorry I'm grumpy, but I have a waning migraine, and I came close to "put the proud ponies in pants," and "I knew if I had the chance, I could make those ponies dance..." (in France) Thank goodness I didn't do THAT!)

I, too, would like to hear it sometime.
