Thread Name: Lyr Req: Wheel of the Year (goes round and round)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wheel of the Year (goes round and round)
I searched with Google Books for several phrases in your song, and didn't find much, but what I did find is rather interesting:
The line "The wheel of the year goes round and round" appears in a song called JOHN BARLEYCORN which is a substantially rewritten version of the traditional song, written by Terry Lamb and Maria Kay Simms. It appears in Witch's Circle: Rituals and Craft of the Cosmic Muse by Maria Kay Simms (St. Paul: Llewellyn Publications, 1994), page 390.
The line "dark is light and light is dark" appears in the Holy Bible: New Living Translation (NLT) (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, 1996, 2004), page 521:
"What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter." —Isaiah 5:20
I couldn't find that exact phrase in any other translation. The King James version has:
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!"
Pat Robertson, in his book The New World Order (1991) seems to be describing the Antichrist when he says:
"In some cases he would have to make people understand that dark is light and light is dark."
I'm not sure who is quoting whom here, or if the expressions are coincidental. Draw your own conclusions.
