The really nasty thing about this, as I understand is that the technology hasn't just been used to make people they want to win sound better, but also to make people they don't want to win sound worse. To stop viewers voting for "the wrong people".

I think you can assume that the cheers gets artificially added, if need be - or removed if "the wrong people" are getting cheered.
