Sydney morning radio guy Adam Spencer reported that story, and he added that when he was in grade school the teams at his school were named after prominent Australian botanists. His team was named Gay, and had a team cheer extolling the virtues of being Gay. He went back to visit that school recently, and found the teams had all been renamed Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green.
