Thread Name: Lyr Req/ADD: Homer & Jethro Songs
Subject: Lyr Add: THAT TIRED RUN-DOWN FEELING (Homer&Jethro
Here's another song where I don't recognize the tune, and therefore suspect that it is not a parody.
THAT TIRED RUN-DOWN FEELING As sung by Homer & Jethro.
1. Now the reason our courts are full of divorces and we're havin' more an' more each day, Well it ain't 'cause couples can't get along like you hear most people say. If the truth was known our nation wide what starts a marriage reelin' Too many people have up an' got that tired run-down feelin'.
CHORUS: Tired in the mornin', tired at night. It's the truth, it's the truth, it's the truth, so help me. You know I'm a-tellin' you right. When you got no vigor an' you got no pep, A good spring tonic will help you to Get rid of that tired run-down feelin'.
2. Now old Napoleon couldn't 'a' done what he done back when he was a young man, When he went through Europe like a scalded dog and he conquered 'most all the land. He led his army on a big white horse, now hist'ry is revealin'. Old Nay-poleon never had that tired run-down feelin'.
3. Niagara Falls is a wonderful place to go on a honeymoon. That's where I went many years ago. I think it was in June. Someday I plan to go there again before I'm old and reelin'. I don't wanta make that trip with that tired run-down feelin'.
[The oldest use I can find of the phrase "tired, run-down feeling" is in a 1920 report by the US Department of Chemistry (probably a predecessor of the Food and Drug Administration) where it quotes an advertisement for a patent nostrum called Parto-Glory, which had been seized and destroyed on the uncontested charge that it was mislabeled.]
