Warm: grits with butter and maybe a bit of sharp cheddar, or oatmeal with fresh apples cut into it.Cold: grape-nuts or Quaker Corn Bran. My mother considered Corn Bran to be a "sugary" breakfast cereal. She occasionally bought Honeycomb or Golden Grahams, but we were expected to eat them as after-school snacks or dessert, not breakfast (to this day, I can't eat sweet cereal for breakfast without getting queasy).
