Thread Name: Lyr Req: There's a Bridle Hanging on the Wall
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Bridle Hanging on the Wall
In South Africa one of the official languages, "Afrikaans" (from the Dutch) is the most spoken. When I was a kid, my father - a farmer and great horseman - often sang this song to me. He actually lost his faithful "President" and the bridle and saddle were still hanging in the stable for many years afterwards. In recent years a local Afrikaans singer, Dozi, rerecorded this song that was originally translated and sung by Chris Blignault way back then. Memories of the heart!

Daars 'n saal wat hang daar aan die muur
(Theres a saddle hanging on the wall)
Dis die saal van my getroue ou dier
(Its the saddle of my faithful old animal)
Jy vra my waarom is my hart so seer
(You ask me why my heart is aching)
Dis die saal wat hang daar aan die muur
Its the saddle hanging on the wall)

Why they preferred to use "saal" (saddle)in stead of "toom" (bridle) is unknown. Is there someone who still remembers the Afrikaans version?
