Another friend of mine had a walk-in aviary he'd built in a spare bedroom and, like Ebbie's friend, had a wide variety of birds.

I don't think my friend's canary ever seemed lonesome. He was in the kitchen area, so had family around most of the time and seemed to consider himself a part of it all. Yah-yoo was quite a chipper little bird. My first cockatiel didn't seem lonesome, either, though he did love the zebra finch when I got it. He would sit on a lower perch while the finch sat up higher and preened his comb for him. It was very cute.
