Thread Name: MT: Ballads in early country recordings
Subject: MT: Ballads in early country recordings
Mike Yates has written a nice article for Musical Traditions entitled, "When Cecil Left the Mountains", on the appearance of traditional songs with English roots -- ballads and broadsides of the sort that Cecil Sharp was seeking in the Appalachians -- in the repertoire of artists who were recorded in the early days of commercial country/old-timey music in the U.S. (before 1942).
