The site for the workshop will be held at the Milford Hall Hotel, in the historic town of Salisbury, easily accessible by plane, car or train. The workshop begins Friday afternoon and runs Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm. The weekend includes classes, performances, group playing, and an informal student concert Saturday evening.

The workshop will cover the styles and playing techniques of country blues, ragtime, gospel and swing guitar as well as fingerstyle arrangements of Irish tunes, with the emphasis on learning new repertoire. Duck and Woody will also be covering arranging ideas and approaches to jazz improvisation. The workshop will focus on the concepts and techniques that connect the various styles of acoustic guitar playing and teach them in a clear and practical manner. The repertoire of the early masters including Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Blake, Skip James, Lonnie Johnson, Robert Johnson and others will be covered. Some of the ideas covered will be syncopated picking techniques, how to 'play off' the chords and understand the logic of the fretboard, improvising within a tune, how to ornament Irish tunes, open tunings, and ways to develop your own sound.
There will classes, informal workshops and individual In addition to the scheduled morning and early afternoon sessions, there will be late afternoon workshops covering a wide variety of specific topics. Total workshop enrollment is limited so to focus on the needs of individual students. Our goal is to create a relaxed non-competitive workshop environment where everyone from beginning students to advanced players will be able to focus in on ways to further their music, understand their craft, have the chance to perform in the informal Saturday evening student concert. Beginner/intermediate players will be taught the fundamentals while more advanced players will be able to move ahead into more complex styles and tunes. The goal of the weekend is to offer offer new repertoire, practical ideas, and a historical perspective to the art of acoustic guitar.

We are looking forward to welcoming you for this special weekend.
