To "bat" one's eye was in my father's vocabulary. It simply meant "blink." It could be voluntary or involuntary. One could bat one's eyes "at" someone, which was a flirtatious gesture by a woman to a man, or it could also be done by a child trying to appear "sweet" in order to get some favor from an adult.
