Well our piano tuner was in just the other day, and says our trusty upright is getting beyond any improvement in its action unless we spend a lot of money on it. It tunes up nicely, but rings on as the felts are wearing out. It cost us £100 second-hand 30 years ago, so has probably paid for itself. Our first tuner reckoned it was about 1920s vintage.
But I still like the sound it makes, and would think it sacrilege to smash it up or burn it.
