Subject: Obit: Gary Wright of Swinton
I don't know how many people on here know Gary. Not many I expect as, although he did post occasionally, he pretty much kept himself to himself.

It is with great regret that I announce his passing. A stalwart of Swinton Folk Club and an essential member of the Swinton Hardy Intrepid Trekking Society (Read the initials!) he passed away this morning aged only 52. He was out with us at Ribblehead in February this year and on fine form. In April he began to feel unwell and in early July was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer. They tried chemotherapy but it made matters worse and the aggressiveness of the cancer became obvious when, during the last week, we found out he had only weeks to live. It became worse and the possible weeks turned to days and then quickly became a matter of hours.

I was lucky enough to be able to see him before he passed away and, even in his very weakened condition, he retained some of the sense of humour that showed though in his (in)famous renditions of "Me and Julio" and "Dolly Parton's Tits"! I have clips of him singing both at Horton in Ribblesdale in February 2006 and I hope to post them somewhere as tribute to a fine man and wonderful friend.

He leaves behind his Mum and Dad and his wife, Bernie, who are understandably heartbroken, as well as countless friends who will miss him greatly. I just feel numb at the moment although I can honestly say it was a great privilege and even greater pleasure to have been counted amongst those friends. I will post more details when I have them.

Rest in Peace, Gary.

Dave.
