Jack - I heard a quote from Voltaire yesterday which I think is relevant here:

Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.

Or: Those who can be made to believe absurdities can be made to commit atrocities.

Atheists are a lot less vulnerable on both counts.
