Once, when I was in the Renal division at my hospital, we had a patient go into heart failure while on the dialysis machine. We kept him hooked up to the machine for circulation and to maintain blood temperature and did chest compressions. Even though we broke a few ribs, we had him back and beating before they could get the defibrillator to him. We broke a couple of ribs but he survived until another heart attack took him off.
