Went in for training today on a system for inventorying all of the books in our university research library. Even with software that accesses the catalog, it will still be about 1.27 million volumes to confirm are there. Or they're not, or there are other anomalies to consider. Every able-bodied employee has a go at it, beginning Nov. 1. Now that could end up being a big de-clutter (or at least, reorganization if the books are on the shelves in the wrong places). I asked one of the catalogers about software to organize my own, and she confirmed what others have said, that LibraryThing is a good one. That's what she uses.
