I am not sure that you are right about picking the "good" behaviour of cricketers to compare with footballers..

The antics of the Pakistan team leave a lot to be desired !!!
Chris Broad has been hauled up for "ungentlemanly conduct on more than one occasion. There have been many match-fixing allegations etc etc.

My son plays cricket and this year while watching him play I have seen several unsavoury and dangerous incidents eg a batsman striking a fielder across the head with his bat - abowler punching the umpire for not giving a batsman out - and several "Chris Broad ball throwing incidents",

There have even been cheating cases in Rugby Union only last year with "blood incidents".

The thing is that football is in the spotlight and the headlines ALL THE TIME. And Rooney at the moment catches most of the bad headlines at the moment.

I anm not saying that I like the man nor do I approve of what players like him earn but we have to face the fact that Rooney plays in front of crowds of 70,000 plus every other week and he puts bums on seats. So one could argue that he earns his money.
