Like Lauren suggests in her discussion, it likely depends on how lear the cause is gotten accross and whether there is a plan to take it beyond a one shot initiative.

I have seen some "one shot" protest marches act more as a relief valve, than an agent of change. In those cases people and movements exhausting their activism with the march. IMO, in those cases they did those they oppose a favour. The key is to have an organized, long lasting and strategic initiative, not relying on one action on one day.
