SRS, one way it can be done without potentially-extensive demo is to frame a new floor on top of the existing, shimming to level as they go, add a new subfloor underlayment and flooring material over top of that, and re-marry the new floor to the existing walls with basebards.
This means less demo for you and the resale option of the sunken floor, without tearing out material that will be hard to remove if it was installed properly to being with-- and if it was, then you will have quite the mess.
Unless you seek an in-floor heated floor system, I'd frame.
You would want to determine the relative cost of filling that 6" solidly with concrete (they can add fiberglass/other fiber to reduce weight), or with the framed wood.
If you have access to reclaimed wood (I'd do it here with shipping pallets), and bamboo flooring, you're not only ahead on money but on being Green by going with the framing approach. But either can work--
There are new products all the time-- one I saw recently was a glue to bond new concrete to old, so maybe that can work to go on top of your existing tile? It probably depends on the finish of the tile-- gloss or matte.
