The leaves have a kind of spicy smell as they lie on the ground in the fall, I love that. When the garden decomposes after the first frost, that's also an interesting smell. And of course I love all of the durable cooking and baking I can do - soups, stews, roasts, breads, things I'm much less likely to make when it's too darn hot.
