Yes - they are different; though inter-marriage and leaving the road to settle in houses has diminished those differences considerably in the last half century. There has been a tendency with the English Travellers we have met to overstate those differences in order to separate their community from other groups, particulary the Irish and Scots Travellers This has been mainly in order to scapegoat them and blame them for all ofences committed by Travellers, absolving themselves from such behaviour.
The truth is that you are no more likely to find a villain within any one given Travelling community; criminality occures basically from the appalling Third World conditions that all Travellers are forced to live, not their racial or cultural origins.
