Flashback!

That Legion gathering reminded me (the ambulance bit) of a party the Student Government folks at my community college held at an area lake. In about 1974. I was the mountain climbing instructor and a first aid instructor, and couldn't turn it off for a party. When someone cut off the end of his finger while cutting watermelon, I sent him to the emergency room, and a friend drove him. When a woman was running down the dock with these dinky little toy-cleats for tying up boats and actually tripped on one by ramming it between two toes and having a rather blunt puncture that might need a stitch and certainly needed a tetanus shot, I had another friend take her to the emergency room.

Apparently, when all four people were at the same emergency room they ran into each other, all were sobber and glad to see each other even though two were the walking wounded, and the emergency room staff were heard to ask "you were all at the same party? What kind of party was this?" One with a first aider, obviously.
