Where did you buy the camera? This day and age, I still buy my cameras in a camera shop. There's an old-fashioned one near my university that carries film, old cameras, plus a huge array of cameras with all of the fancy bells and whistles, with old-fashioned service. Tons of lenses, bags, flashes, etc. are there, of course, and they are as busy printing photos as they ever were.

If I were having trouble with a camera I bought from them, I would take it back and see if they can suggest a remedy, fix it, or offer me a discount on a new camera, literally using the old one as a trade in if they think it can be fixed or simply as a good way to keep a loyal customer. In this day and age of big box stores, there are still some very good reasons to go to specialty stores.
