The Martinstrompete is an instrument associated with the Labour movement and football fans. It is very easy to play, the principle resembling the harmonicas. The name Schalmei is historical for a double-reed instrument. Thus both names are deceptive, borrowing prestige.

The Nazis did not like the instrument, as far as I know. Their youths had to learn a genuine longish bugle called Fanfare.

Both instruments are still in use and can be ordered easily in many countries.
