It's all very well intoning "built in obsolescence" but if you've paid £800 or more for a DSLR it's not exactly painless to throw it in the nearest bin. I would expect any digital camera to carry on for 5 years and a DSLR for 10! OK, they'd be totally obsolete by then but still....

I did attend a fairly alcoholic meal some time ago where a colleague took his malfunctioning digital compact and battered it against the bar table until it fell apart. It was VERY funny but I still winced.
